Tomorrow, In a Year' is not a traditional store but a profound artistic endeavor, an opera that translates Charles Darwin’s seminal work, 'On the Origin of Species,' into a compelling auditory experience. Commissioned by the Danish performance art group Hotel Pro Forma, this project brought together the creative forces of Swedish electronic music duo The Knife (siblings Karin and Olof Dreijer), with American musician Mt. Sims and Berlin-based artist Planningtorock. The challenge was monumental: to transform a dense, scientific text about the mechanisms of evolution into a narrative-driven, emotionally resonant piece of musical theatre.
The collaborators embarked on an intensive research process, delving into Darwin’s writings and consulting with experts in evolutionary biology to grasp the core concepts of natural selection, adaptation, and the interconnectedness of life. This deep engagement with the source material is evident in the opera's structure and soundscape.
